zero to landfill targeted
AAH transformed its recycling policy, making it more time, space and cost efficient and working
towards Zero to Landfill.
Introducing the client
AAH is the UK's leading distributor of pharmaceutical and healthcare products and services to pharmacies, hospitals and doctors. The Swansea branch has the ability to process an order every three seconds and can carry 20,000 product lines
at any one time.
Understanding the issues
AAH was using time-consuming practices to handle its materials. Several contractors were involved and segregating and handling materials was inefficient. A large skip was being used for general waste, which was taking up valuable space on the site.
Implementing the plan
An audit by The Recycling Company prompted a solution that switched the current cardboard compaction to one that could handle dry mixed recycling - paper, cardboard and polythene. Office recycling is handled via a bag system, helping staff to sort materials for easier recycling. The large general waste skip has been removed, giving the company additional space, and general materials are baled and collected more frequently in bale form.
Seeing the results
AAH spends far less time on handling materials than before, as collection and recycling of all materials is handled by
The Recycling Company. Mixed packaging is being recycled at our facility and general waste is used in the generation
of electricity at a Waste to Energy plant. The company has a single point of contact and a monthly report that records performance and documents collection.
“With the help of The Recycling Company, we now have complete control over our materials collection
and recycling. In the next few months, we should be certified as a Zero to Landfill company –
something we couldn’t have done without The Recycling compaNy.”
